Community Foundation Fund Established to Support Black Hawk Local College Access Network

CFNEIA
May 3, 2021

The Black Hawk Local College Access Network (LCAN) has established the Black Hawk LCAN Opportunity Awaits Fund with the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. This special project fund will help provide Hawkeye Community College, Allen College, Upper Iowa University, University of Northern Iowa and community nonprofit agencies financial support to assist with barriers preventing students from completing their degree.

“The Black Hawk LCAN is a network of agencies funded and supported by Iowa College Aid who are dedicated to increasing postsecondary education rates in our community,” said Tina Engstrom, Local College Access Network Coordinator. “We hold the belief that everyone needs an education beyond high school to compete in the current job market and attain economic security.”

The mission of Black Hawk LCAN directly supports the Future Ready Iowa (FRI) goal that 70% of Iowans have an education beyond high school by 2025. In order to reach the FRI goal, the Black Hawk LCAN created a team dedicated to removing obstacles nontraditional students face when trying to enroll or remain in college. By creating a financial resource for nontraditional students, they are providing a lifeline for students that couldn’t have otherwise realized their college dream. The program benefits students, employers, and the community as a whole.

Financial gifts to support Black Hawk LCAN’s fund are welcome and can be made to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, 3117 Greenhill Circle, Cedar Falls, IA, 50613. Checks should be made payable to the Black Hawk LCAN Opportunity Awaits Fund. Gifts can also be made on the Community Foundation’s secure website at fund.cfneia.org/LCAN. Donors to the fund can take advantage of normal federal deductions for charitable gifts.
