Region hit hard by flooding. CFNEIA looking at response role.

Posted on September 26, 2016

Northeast Iowa has been hit hard by the recent flooding. Thirteen counties have received a formal disaster proclamation from Governor Branstad, and of those counties, eight are partners in our region. Our hearts and thoughts go out to all those who have been impacted by these devastating floods.

The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa is currently in conversation with disaster first response and recovery agencies in the impacted counties of our region. Staff are preparing to act quickly to potentially start a fund or funds for response efforts for affected individuals, families and communities. The model will be similar to the model adapted during the 2008 floods and tornadoes, using a case management model in partnership with other agencies with "boots on the ground." Funds would be allocated to these agencies actively assisting flood-impacted households and urgent community needs.

We see our communities are hurting during this time, and we are thoughtfully seeking to be part of the response effort. In this time of disaster, our state once again sees Iowans helping Iowans. Our Iowa spirit and bond is a bright spot as we respond to people and communities in need.
