After updating the multi-purpose room seating at Iowa Valley Junior-Senior High School, the principal realized this would not only serve as a community events space but would also be a place to cultivate a new student tradition. “No phone, new friends Fridays” began in 2019, where students receive a colored card each Friday prompting them on where to sit for lunch. No phones are allowed, giving students each other’s undivided attention to get to know one another better and practice face-to-face communication skills. More than anything, it has instilled a greater sense of Tiger pride.
