SUMMARY:Beyond the Boardroom: The Board’s Role in Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:November 18\, 2026 | 3:30–5 p.m. | Virtual via Zoom \nPolicy decisions shape the communities nonprofits serve\, the resources available to them\, and their ability to advance their missions. Board members bring valuable relationships\, community knowledge\, and influence that can help their organizations navigate these issues and create lasting change. \nJoin the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa for our next Board Fundamentals session\, Beyond the Boardroom: The Board’s Role in Advocacy. In this interactive virtual session\, nonprofit advocacy expert Bethany Snyder\, MPP\, will help board members understand how advocacy connects to their organization’s mission and explore practical ways to get involved. \nParticipants will learn how to build relationships with policymakers\, connect their organizations with potential allies\, and speak up about issues affecting their communities. Whether you’re new to nonprofit board service or a seasoned board member\, you’ll leave with practical ideas for making advocacy part of your board service and strengthening your organization’s long-term impact. \nAbout the Presenter \nBethany Snyder\, MPP\, is the powerhouse behind Snyder Strategies\, LLC\, where she helps nonprofit and membership organizations build bold\, effective advocacy programs that drive real change. \nWith nearly 25 years of experience in communications\, advocacy\, and public affairs\, Bethany has worn many hats: grassroots advocacy director\, lobbyist\, consultant\, communications director\, and even a U.S. Senate staffer\, bringing deep expertise to every project she touches. \nShe also served as Founding Director of the Iowa Nonprofit Alliance\, where Bethany championed Iowa’s 23\,000 nonprofit organizations and the professionals who power them\, ensuring their voices were heard and amplified. \nA proud Hawkeye with a BA from the University of Iowa and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Minnesota\, Bethany’s dedication to community runs deep. She leads Central Iowa Rainbow Families\, chairs One Iowa Action and the Urbandale Civil Rights Commission\, and serves on the Family Equality board\, all while advocating for a more equitable future. \nRegistration \nThis session will be held virtually via Zoom.
