Grant Wheeler Scholarship

In 2003, friends and loved ones of Grant Wheeler established this scholarship to provide financial assistance to graduating seniors of high schools within a 30-mile radius of Waterloo, Iowa, who have actively participated in running sports/track or cross country.

Procedures

1. Complete the Grant Wheeler Scholarship application. Click here to download.

2. Attach one page summary sheet addressing your commitment to participating in a running sport, and the impact your own personal faith has had on your life.

3. Attach one reference letter from a teacher, coach, pastor, employer or other adult mentor (not a family member).

4. Attach a copy of your most recent school transcripts.

5. Submit your proposal by the application deadline (postmarked) to:

Deadlines

The completed Grant Wheeler Scholarship application must be returned to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa by March 12, 2010 (postmark deadline).

Criteria

To be eligible for the Grant Wheeler Scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled at a high school within a 30-mile radius of Waterloo, Iowa, including, but not limited to, the following schools:
    • Aplington-Parkersburg
    • Cedar Falls
    • Denver
    • Dike-New Hartford
    • Don Bosco
    • Dunkerton
    • Gladbrook-Reinbeck
    • Grundy Center
    • Hudson
    • Janesville
    • Jesup
    • North Tama
    • Union-La Porte City
    • Wapsie Valley
    • Waterloo
    • Waverly-Shell Rock
  • Demonstrate the qualities of encouragement, character, faith in God and love through a spirit of humility and self-discipline, and a strong desire to enhance their education.
NOTE: The above criteria are of greater importance than the student's grade point average.
