A vital part of the Bremer County Community Foundation’s mission is making charitable grants to non-profit agencies. The Foundation does not do programming. It supports agencies that do programming for public good.

Areas of Grant Making
Arts and Culture
Supporting the creative arts- theater, music, painting, sculpture, dance, strengthening the programs of local museums and libraries.
Community Affairs and Development
Including the administration of justice, development of employment and training, encouragement of citizen participation in community affairs, and enhancement of local community resources.
Education
Improving the quality of education through support of both public and private institutions of learning.
Environment Education and Protection
Supporting conservation of natural resources, preventing and eliminating pollution, preserving water quality, protecting wildlife, and educating the public about environmental priorities.
Health
Helping alleviate human suffering through support of institutions dedicated to healing and wholeness of life through improvement of health care, prevention of substance abuse, research into the causes and prevention of disease.
Historical Preservation
Assisting groups engaged in restoring structures and artifacts of historical importance to the area.
Human Services
Assisting with programming efforts that addresses issues important to youth, women, minorities, the elderly, the handicapped, and families in need.
Deadlines
The Bremer County Community Foundation Committee expects to approve charitable grants once a year in June.
All copies of applications for grants must be postmarked by March 17, 2008 for the 2008 grant cycle.
ALL applicants will be notified in writing in June when final grant decisions are made.
Criteria
- Any school, church, or non-profit organization that operates under the jurisdiction or a city within Bremer County may be eligible.
- Applicant organizations must be tax-exempt, non-profit entities classified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) organizations or equivalent, or alternately, must be sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization. If you have questions about eligibility or this classification, please contact our administrative office at (319) 287-9106.
- There is no set of criteria that, if met, will guarantee funding.
- CONSIDER APPLYING. We look for new ways to have a positive impact on Bremer County through innovative and high-impact grants.
- Amounts requested that are less than $500 or more than $10,000 will not be considered.
- Only one application per organization will be accepted.
Procedures
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY.
If your organization is not a 501(c)(3) or government organization you will need to complete the
Non-501(c)(3) Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement in addition to the grant application materials. If you have specific questions please contact our administrative office by using the information on the forms.
Applicants interested in seeking grants from the Foundation are asked to submit
14 copies of the completed grant application packet including:
- The Bremer County Grant Request Summary Form
- Cover letter from the director or CEO of the organization
- A copy of the overall project budget for the organization
- A copy of the IRS letter recognizing the organization as exempt under IRC 501(c)(3) or, alternatively, a fiscal sponsorship agreement signed by a 501(c)(3) organization.
